Got some good news for our folks! Volksbank Rhein-Lippe banked a triumphant year in 2024. Let's dive into the nitty-gritty of their dividend distribution.

In 2024, Volksbank Rhein-Lippe managed to attract 1,000 new members, bolstering their squad to over 31,000 strong. The bank's business assets also saw a notable surge, landing at a cool 19.4 million euros. This success story was revealed at the annual shindig held at the Event Hall Wesel. Ulf Lange and Marc Indefrey, the board members, extended a warm welcome to all reps, stressing the significance of member involvement: "Your active participation lays the foundation for a values-driven, prosperous, and forward-thinking business strategy."

Pays Out the Dough

The bank's account balance swelled slightly to 1.79 billion euros, and its customer volume hit nearly 4 billion euros. The annual surplus reached around 2 million euros. During the powwow, the burning question was how to allocate the annual surplus. The reps, in agreement with the board and supervisory board, decided to pay out a 3% dividend, amounting to roughly half a million euros for our members. Approximately 1.5 million euros will be stashed in the reserves, fortifying the bank for future growth.

The previous year was a challenge, but it proved to be a success for the bank. The influx of new members and hike in business assets demonstrate a robust performance. The cooperative principles - participation, promotion, and community - continue to guide the bank's social engagements. In 2024, approximately 300,000 euros were doled out to the region through donations and sponsorships.

To further reward their members, Volksbank Rhein-Lippe slapped on the Volksbank Rhein-Lippe member prize. The first place and 2,500 euros went to Verein Löwenzahn and Pusteblume Wesel, a non-profit organization assisting seriously ill children and their families. Other prize winners also nabbed some financial support.

Online banking and app interactions soared to over six million in 2024, underlining the importance of digital applications. While online connections thrived, the bank stresses that personal connections remain the secret sauce to its success. More than 32,000 advisory chats were juggled, and the branches in Hünxe and Wesel-Flüren got a well-deserved makeover.

Intergenerational consulting was also expanded in 2024, and the 2024 training program employed 28 young people aged across three groups. The employee count inched up to 274.

Last but definitely not least, a keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Theresia Theurl (University of Münster) raised the curtain on the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, proclaimed by the UN. She urged the importance of viewing 2025 not just as a party, but as a call to action: "Cooperatives transcend mere economic entities - they are vessels of meaning and pillars of trust. 2025 serves as our opportunity to make this evident collectively." She also spotlighted the necessity of capturing younger audiences, as they crave meaning, community, and transparency - values that cooperatives embody with flair.

With an annual surplus of around 2 million euros, Volksbank Rhein-Lippe chose to allocate a portion towards its members, distributing a 3% dividend, worth roughly half a million euros.
