FKS Crackdown Nets 36.8M in Fines, 55.8 Years Imprisonment in Thuringia & Southwest Saxony

The Financial Control of Illegal Employment (FKS), a joint venture of the customs office (Zoll) and tax offices (Finanzämter), has been actively combating the illegal labor market (schwarzer Arbeitsmarkt) in Thuringia and Southwest Saxony. Their efforts in 2022 resulted in significant penalties and imprisonment.

The FKS conducted inspections across the region, leading to around 3,800 criminal proceedings and over 1,900 administrative fine proceedings. These inspections uncovered substantial damages amounting to 36.8 million euros, primarily from unpaid or underpaid social security contributions, construction industry social fund contributions, unlawfully received benefits, and minimum wage violations.

The Main Customs Office Erfurt played a pivotal role, imposing fines totalling 7.8 million euros in 2022. They inspected 2,069 employers in Thuringia and Southwest Saxony, contributing to the overall success of the operations. The stringent checks resulted in 55.8 years of imprisonment and 1.5 million euros in fines, demonstrating the severity of the offenses and the commitment to deterring future violations.
