Ford F-Series Tops Most Stolen Vehicles in 2022
In 2022, full-size pickup trucks topped the list of most stolen vehicles, with Ford F-Series models being particularly targeted. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reports that these trucks, including the Ford F-150, accounted for over 25% of all thefts, with Chevrolet Silverado and RAM 1500 also featuring high rates.
Vehicle theft has been on the rise since the pandemic began. In 2022 alone, over one million cars were stolen, equating to approximately one vehicle every 32 seconds. July is typically the month with the highest theft rate. Fortunately, more than 85% of stolen passenger cars were recovered, with a significant portion found within a day.
To protect your car, the NICB recommends removing valuables, locking doors, and never leaving keys or key fobs inside. Installing anti-theft devices and using visible deterrents can also help. If your car is stolen, report it immediately to the police and your insurer, providing details such as make/model, color, license plate, and VIN number.
Full-size pickup trucks, particularly Ford F-Series models like the F-150, are currently at high risk of theft. With car theft rates increasing, it's crucial for owners to take preventive measures and be prepared in case of theft.
