French Authorities Detain Suspicious Tanker Off France's Coast

French authorities have detained a Benin-flagged tanker, the Boracay, off the coast of France. The move comes amidst allegations of the vessel's involvement in 'serious crimes' and potential links to recent drone flights over Denmark.

The Boracay has been anchored near Saint-Nazaire for several days when French military personnel boarded the vessel. President Emmanuel Macron has ordered an investigation into the tanker's activities, although he hasn't confirmed its connection to the Danish drone incidents yet.

The investigation was sparked by the Boracay's refusal to cooperate and its lack of clear nationality justification. The European Union has further raised concerns by blacklisting the vessel as part of a 'ghost fleet' aiding Russia in evading Western sanctions.

The Boracay's movements have drawn suspicion. It was anchored off Denmark from September 22 to 25, coinciding with drone sightings in the region. Additionally, the Russian landing ship Aleksandr Shabalin was reportedly nearby with a deactivated transponder, potentially serving as a launch platform for the drones.

The Boracay remains anchored off France as investigations continue. Authorities are exploring potential links between the vessel and recent drone flights over Denmark. The European Union's blacklisting of the tanker underscores the seriousness of the allegations.
