GCC Railway Set for 2030 Completion, Promising Transformative Trade Boost

The Gulf Railway, a monumental project connecting the six GCC nations, is set for completion by December 2030. This ambitious venture aims to significantly reduce travel time between key cities, fostering regional cooperation and integration.

Once operational, the GCC Railway will slash travel time between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to under five hours by train. This substantial reduction promises to revolutionize passenger and freight movement across the Gulf, boosting trade and regional integration.

The success of this project relies heavily on regional cooperation, as emphasized by experts at the Global Rail 2025 event. DP World, a leading logistics company, sees rail connectivity as vital for slashing logistics costs and enhancing supply chain efficiency in the GCC. Meanwhile, Etihad Rail is exploring strategic partnerships with Jordan, exploring opportunities in freight corridors and industrial hubs.

Spanning approximately 2,177 km, the GCC Railway is poised to reshape trade patterns, open new economic corridors, and provide a sustainable alternative to road transport. Etihad Rail's CEO, Shadi Malak, underscores the project's inevitability, stating it's no longer a question of 'if' but 'when'.

With the GCC Railway on track for completion by 2030, the region braces for transformative changes in trade, logistics, and connectivity. This monumental infrastructure project, backed by robust regional cooperation, promises to reshape the GCC's economic landscape and foster sustainable growth.
