German Customs Seize Thousands of Cigarettes in Two Major Busts
Customs officers in Germany have seized a significant number of cigarettes in two separate incidents, leading to a substantial tax loss.
In the first incident, a driver initially claimed to have only three packs of cigarettes but was discovered with 35 packs hidden in the trailer's false bottom. A total of 41 packs, containing 8,200 cigarettes with Bulgarian tax stamps, were seized. Proceedings were initiated against both drivers, and all cigarettes were confiscated.
In a separate incident, a car with Eastern European license plates was pulled over on the A3 for an intensive check. Officers found 12,180 cigarettes in the driver's cab of an Eastern European truck. The search results do not reveal which company organised the training days for the Landshut customs authority on April 26, 2025, in Altdorf and May 10, 2025, in Passau, where these cigarettes might have been headed.
The total tax loss from both cases amounts to 4,188 EUR. Customs authorities continue to investigate the source and destination of the seized cigarettes.
