Germany's Home Work Trend Stabilizes in 2024

In 2024, a significant shift in work patterns was observed across Germany. The proportion of employed individuals working from home at least occasionally remained steady at 24%, similar to the previous years. However, a notable change was seen among those with longer commutes, who increasingly opted for home office.

The trend was particularly evident among those whose workplace was 50 kilometers or more away from their residence. In 2024, 42% of these individuals worked from home, marking an increase compared to 2020. This shift was driven by various age groups, with those aged 35 to 44 leading the way at 29%, followed closely by the 25 to 34 age bracket at 28%.

In 2024, Germany's home working landscape showed signs of stabilization, with 24% of employed people working from home at least occasionally. While the country was slightly above the EU average, some EU countries demonstrated notably higher rates. The trend towards more flexible work arrangements continues, with a majority of home office users maintaining a balance between working from home and at the workplace.
