Global gathering convenes: WTTC's inaugural virtual Annual General Meeting, joined by 120 Members and WTTC Ambassadors.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) hosted its first virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) earlier this month, where the G20 Guidelines for Action on Safe and Seamless Travel were endorsed. The historic meeting, attended by over 120 CEOs from around the globe, was chaired by Chris Nassetta, President & CEO of Hilton and WTTC Chair.

The plan was welcomed by the G20 during an historic meeting in October, as stated in the 'G20 Declaration'. The establishment of the G20 Tourism Working Group was also a part of this declaration. The WTTC Members, including Gary Chapman, Jeffrey C Rutledge, Jerry Noonan, Darrell Wade, Jane Sun, Desirée Bollier, Manfredi Lefebvre, Arnold Donald, Alex Zozaya, Hiromi Tagawa, and others, are committed to continuing their work together to achieve the key objective of restoring the Travel & Tourism sector.

Gloria Guevara, WTTC President & CEO, emphasized the need for the Travel & Tourism sector to come together in a globally coordinated way to ensure the recovery process is swift and painless. She praised the efforts of the entire WTTC team for bringing attention to the crisis the sector is facing and being the voice of the sector.

The G20 Heads of State announced the 'G20 Declaration' last week, endorsing the G20 Guidelines for Action on Safe and Seamless Travel. This initiative comes as a response to the WTTC's major 2020 initiative, the 100 million Jobs Recovery Plan.

WTTC Ambassadors Taleb Rifai, Michel Taride, Michael Frenzel, and Peter Greenberg were also in attendance at the meeting. The conclusion of the WTTC meeting reiterated the importance of restarting international travel in a safe and seamless way to recover the 140 million plus jobs impacted by the pandemic.

Next week, Spain will be hosting an event in La Palma to advance key actions to restart the Travel & Tourism sector and enhance international collaboration. The WTTC sent letters to the Heads of State of the G7, Australia, South Korea, and Spain, calling for strong leadership and effective international collaboration to resume travel safely in August.

The search results do not contain information about the identities of the WTTC members attending the meeting in La Palma, Spain, or details about the measures to restart the sector and improve international cooperation. However, the consensus among the global leaders present at the meeting is clear: a united effort is needed to revive the Travel & Tourism sector and restore jobs worldwide.
