Greifswald Introduces Mandatory Rent Survey for First-Ever Qualified Rent Index
The University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald is set to introduce a qualified rent index for the first time. An online survey, mandatory for all residents, will be held from September to October 2025 to gather crucial data. Non-participation or false statements may result in fines up to €5,000.
The survey will cover lease details, apartment size, equipment, and heating type. The rent index aims to bring transparency and fairness to the local housing market. High participation is vital for a realistic picture of the rental market. The City of Greifswald's Department of Urban Development and Housing will coordinate the project. Citizens' involvement is key to creating a reliable index.
The qualified rent index will be published in March 2026 and will hold legal binding status. Residents are urged to participate in the survey to ensure the index accurately reflects the local rental market.
