Hamm Doubles Down on Public Transport, Aiming for 10-Minute Intervals by 2035
Hamm is set to enhance its public transport system, aiming to nearly double the share of public transport in total traffic by 2035. The city is implementing a 10-minute timer on central bus lines during peak travel times, starting August 24. This change is part of the Public Transport Plan (NVP) 2025 and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 40% (20,000 tons annually) by 2035.
From August 24, lines 1/3 (East-West axis) and 10/11 (ring via the main station to Bockum-Hövel) will run at a 10-minute timer between 6:30 and 8:30 am and between 1:00 and 6:00 pm on weekdays. This service will initially last until the end of 2026, with further decisions based on demand data collected during this period.
The city aims to increase public transport passengers from 45,000 to around 70,000 per day. By the end of 2026, three additional bus lines in Hamm will also be equipped with a 10-minute timer service as part of the traffic turnaround.
The 10-minute timer service is a significant step towards Hamm's goal of reducing CO2 emissions and increasing public transport usage. The city is dedicated to improving its public transport system, with more changes planned by the end of 2026.
