Harting Residents Launch Initiative for Better Bus Connections
Residents of Harting are preparing to initiate a citizens' campaign to bolster their bus links, a long-standing concern that has seen limited progress despite years of advocacy. The current situation leaves much to be desired, with buses often delayed, rerouted, or absent, particularly after 6 pm.
The current bus timetable, effective from September 16, 2025, sees Bus Line 9 towards Burgweinting depart from stop 2 in Harting at 13:01 and 13:11, continuing via Sallerner Berg. However, residents have reported instances where buses suddenly take detours, leaving passengers stranded for extended periods. This unreliable service has caused difficulties for many, including Brigitte Meyer, a severely disabled resident who has faced problems with her employer due to delays.
The city utility of Regensburg acknowledges the poor performance of Line 9, attributing it to a subcontractor engaged by the city utility. Despite this, social affairs mayor Astrid Freudenstein declines responsibility for the transportation needs of disabled people. It was only about a year ago that the Line 9 schedule was improved to a half-hourly service until 6 pm, following years of protests from residents.
With the current bus service in Harting failing to meet residents' needs, particularly those with disabilities, a citizens' initiative is set to launch to push for improved connections. The city utility and mayor must address these concerns to ensure reliable and accessible public transportation for all Harting residents.
