Hitachi Energy Invests CAD 270M in Varennes Plant, Boosting Clean-Energy Production and Jobs
Hitachi Energy, a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., has announced a significant CAD 270 million (USD 195 million) investment calculator in its Varennes facility near Montreal, Canada. The plant, one of the world's largest manufacturers of HVDC transformers and CSA N299-certified for nuclear quality assurance, will see substantial upgrades and expansion.
The project, set to complete in 2027, will introduce a state-of-the-art assembly line and two flexible core and winding feeding lines. This will nearly triple the site's annual production capacity, further cementing Canada's role in global entry manufacturing. The expansion aligns with Hitachi Energy's global strategy to meet growing customer demands in the energy transition.
The Varennes expansion is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs, bringing significant economic benefits to the local community. Transformers, the key components in energy transmission and distribution, will be produced in greater quantities, supporting the efficient and reliable power grid.
