Wells Fargo to Close Two Oregon Offices, Affecting Over 700 Employees

In a move to consolidate its operations, Wells Fargo has announced that it will be closing two of its offices in Oregon, located in Hillsboro and Salem. According to the company, this decision will impact approximately 500 employees in Hillsboro and 221 employees in Salem.

The exact timeline for these closures is not yet publicly available, with the formal notices of displacement expected to be issued in the fourth quarter of 2025. The impacted branch locations in Oregon have not been disclosed, nor has the consolidation strategy being employed by the bank.

In a statement, Michael Grossberg, a Wells Fargo executive, confirmed that the company aims to reduce its presence from over 150 markets to fewer locations. The company plans to unify its operations into 13 geographic locations, centering around major cities such as San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, St. Louis, Charlotte, and New York.

Affected employees will receive a 60-day notice period from the day they receive formal notice of termination. They will also continue to have health plan participation at active employee rates for a specified duration, as previously stated. Impacted employees will receive career assistance, severance, and other services to assist them in the transition.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Wells Fargo has made significant changes to its workforce in Oregon. According to The Oregonian, the bank has already culled around 400 employees in the Hillsboro offices over the past couple of years. The Oregonian also reported that Wells Fargo plans to shut down its global operations business offices in Hillsboro, Portland, and Salem by the end of next year.

In other related news, Wells Fargo has cut 317 staff members in the Des Moines area this year. The bank has not provided any new information about purchasing licensing rights.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on Wells Fargo's branch closures in Oregon, it is recommended to check official Wells Fargo press releases, local Oregon news outlets, or the bank's corporate website directly.

In light of the consolidation strategy being employed by Wells Fargo, the banking-and-insurance industry may witness changes as Wells Fargo aims to reduce its presence from over 150 markets to fewer locations. The closure of Wells Fargo's offices in Hillsboro and Salem, Oregon, could potentially affect the business district in these areas, as nearly 1,000 employees are set to be displaced from these locations.
