Iconic Bergisch Gladbach Store Volberg Closes After 95 Years
Volberg, a long-standing business in Bergisch Gladbach, is set to close at the end of the year due to insolvency. The store, which has been serving generations since 1927, is known for its expansive range of craft materials and office supplies under its 'Creative Land' section.
The company, founded in 1927, has expanded over the years to include a hardware store and the popular 'Creative Land' section. This section offers an impressive 25,000 items, catering to the needs of families, artists, teachers, and kindergarten staff. However, managing director Gerd Lüke has confirmed the closure, citing challenges in competing with online retailers like the Apple Store and matching large market conditions.
Customers have expressed shock and sadness at the news. One customer described Volberg as a 'treasure trove for creative minds of all ages'. The unique range of stationery, artist, and craft supplies in the 'Creative Land' section will also cease to be available. Despite the closure, customers can look forward to 'nice discounts' during the ongoing clearance sale. The store plans to remain open until December 31st or until all stock is sold.
Volberg, a traditional business in Bergisch Gladbach, will close its doors at the end of the year. The insolvency comes after decades of serving the community, leaving customers with a limited time to shop the clearance sale and bid farewell to a local institution.
