Imperial Brands has announced its intention to close the Reemtsma cigarette factory in Langenhagen, near Hannover, by October 1, 2025. The decision, made as part of a review of its global manufacturing network, puts all 640 jobs at risk. The site will either be sold or closed, but there's no information about changes in production regulations.

The plant, opened in 1971, produces classic cigarette brands, fine-cut tobacco, and tobacco sticks for heat-not-burn devices. Reemtsma board member Rémi Guillon attributed the closure to declining volumes, high production costs, and regulatory challenges. The decision follows a review of Imperial Brands' global manufacturing network as part of its renewed strategy by 2030. The plant's closure is due to high production costs and insufficient capacity utilization.
