In 2024, Over 2500 Driving Permits Granted to Non-Citizensby Central Authorities
In a significant announcement on Thursday, the Central Agency for Illegal Residents disclosed plans to issue 2,530 driving licenses to the resident population known as 'bedouns' in 2024. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the General Traffic Department.
According to Abdullah Al-Farhan, Director of the Information Department at the agency, a total of 29,256 driving licenses were renewed between January 1 and December 31, 2022.
Jahra Governorate registered the highest number of newly issued licenses during this period, with 1,516 licenses. The Capital Governorate followed suit with 325 licenses, while Farwaniya and Ahmadi recorded 314 and 269 licenses, respectively. Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate issued 59 licenses, and Hawalli had the lowest count with 46 licenses. Notably, only one license was processed through the new electronic traffic services system.
Driving licenses are available to individuals aged 18 and above who hold valid identification cards, as per Cabinet Resolution No. 409/2011. This resolution provides certain benefits and facilities to bedouns, enhancing their mobility and access to employment opportunities.
