In several districts of the Krasnoyarsk region, authorities confiscated nearly 300 hectares of land from property owners.
In Krasnoyarsk Krai, overdue fields of untouched land previously belonging to private owners have been returned to the region's possession following inspections by Rosseľhoznadzor, the regional agricultural watchdog. These property owners were mandated to cultivate the land for agriculture, but upon inspection, it was discovered that they neglected their duty and abandoned the land instead.
Recently, a court order will seize an unused 17.01 hectare plot from an owner in Berezovsky Raion. According to the local Rosseľhoznadzor, the land is overgrown with weeds and trees, making it evident that livestock hasn't grazed on the land, crops haven't been harvested, and no farming activities have taken place.
Previously, in 2020, experts from the department observed the degenerated state of the land, issued fines, and delivered repeated orders for the owner to comply. However, these warnings went unheeded.
In February 2021, Rosseľhoznadzor submitted their findings to the regional Asset Management Agency to initiate the seizure of the land and put it up for auction, focusing on ending this negligent behavior. After a year, the court issued its decision.
Overall this year, five such uncared-for land parcels spanning 297.9 hectares in Kosulsky, Ilansky, Berezovsky, Kazachinsky, and Sukhabuzimsky Raions have been seized by Rosseľhoznadzor from negligent owners.

Landowners in Russia are expected to respect land management regulations and use their properties for agricultural purposes. Failure to do so can result in the loss of possessions to maintain agricultural productivity and protect natural resources. This practice is not unique to Krasnoyarsk Krai, as it is common for cities and regions nationwide to enforce these standards through their agricultural oversight bodies like Rosseľhoznadzor.
- The neglected land in Krasnoyarsk Krai, left untouched by its owners, could have been used for agricultural purposes, contributing to the region's farming industry.
- Considering this situation, there's a necessity for environmental-science studies to assess the impact of climate-change on the region's agriculture and forestry, as the unused land could have been a carbon sink, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
- Furthermore, scientists could analyze the biodiversity of the unused land, filled with unwanted trees and weeds, providing data for science and conservation efforts related to the region's flora and fauna.
- In 2021, the seized land auctions might attract investors from the manufacturing and finance sectors, aiming to transform these neglected areas into sustainable and profitable ventures for the benefit of the economy and the environment.
- If proper steps are taken to manage these lands effectively, it would set a positive example for other regions in Russia, encouraging owners to maintain their agriculture holdings and preserving the nation's natural resources for future generations.
- Amidst ongoing news about the industrial growth in Krasnoyarsk Krai, it's crucial to remain vigilant about agriculture and land management practices to ensure the region's prosperity is both economically and environmentally sound.
