India's Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, holds the grand opening for the India-Japan Intellectual Gathering
In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently visited Japan to explore investment opportunities for the state. During his visit, he discussed potential collaborations with Japanese counterparts, focusing on sectors such as green energy, semiconductor development, precision engineering, and sustainable innovation.
The India-Japan Intellectual Conclave, organised by Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of External Affairs, provided the perfect platform for such discussions. The conclave, which brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from both nations, was attended by various dignitaries and saw the participation of Japanese companies and universities.
Chief Minister Sarma inaugurated the fifth edition of the India-Japan Intellectual Conclave, during which he highlighted the longstanding cultural and historical relationship between India and Japan, dating back to 552 CE. In his speech, he emphasized that the shared history continues to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in the fields of trade, education, and technology.
The bilateral trade between India and Japan has been on an upward trajectory, reaching $22.9 billion in 2023. Over 1,500 Japanese companies are currently operating in India, contributing significantly to the economic growth of the country.
During the visit, Chief Minister Sarma invited Japanese investors to participate in the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit, attended by government officials, business leaders, and investors, offers a unique opportunity for foreign investors to invest in Assam's growing economy.
A Japanese delegation also visited the semiconductor project site in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, showcasing the potential for collaboration in the technology sector.
The India-Japan Intellectual Conclave and the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit are significant steps towards strengthening the economic ties between India and Japan, opening up new avenues for collaboration and investment.
