India's First Cooperative CBG Plant Inaugurated; 'Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses' Launched

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated India's first cooperative multi-feed Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district on October 5, 2025. The event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Union MoS for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, and other senior leaders. The CBG plant, set up with an investment of about Rs. 55 crore, is expected to produce 12 tonnes of CBG and 75 tonnes of potash daily.

The CBG plant was established at the Maharshi Shankarrao Kolhe Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana cooperative sugar mill in Kopargaon, Maharashtra, with government support through the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). Amit Shah stressed that the cooperative sector has been revived and is now a strong pillar of India's rural economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He announced that 15 sugar mills across the country will receive government support to set up similar CBG plants.

In another significant development, the 'Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses' was launched with an investment of Rs. 11,340 crore over six years. The mission aims to make India self-reliant in arhar, urad, and masoor. The Cabinet approved higher Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for several crops, including Rs. 300 per quintal for masoor, Rs. 250 for mustard, and Rs. 160 for wheat. Farmers registering with NAFED and NCCF will have their entire crop procured at MSP, benefiting nearly two crore farmers nationwide.

The inauguration of the CBG plant and the launch of the 'Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses' reflect the government's commitment to supporting farmers and promoting rural development. These initiatives are expected to boost the cooperative sector, enhance farmers' income, and strengthen India's food security.
