Industrial facility in southern Brazil to be installed by Cemvita, under terms of partnership with Rio Grande do Sul's administration
In a significant move towards sustainable bio-based products and global decarbonization efforts, Cemvita, a leading U.S.-based industrial biotechnology company, has signed an engagement agreement to build a facility in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The facility will produce FermOil™, a sustainable oil used as feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and FermNPK™, an innovative biofertilizer supporting regenerative agriculture.
The agreement, which formalizes Cemvita’s plan, positions Rio Grande do Sul as a potential global hub for innovation in the circular bioeconomy. The facility's role is to advance sustainable bio-based products and contribute to the bioeconomy circular model.
Cemvita's decision to establish the facility in Rio Grande do Sul aligns with a collaboration the company initiated with Be8, a local biofuel pioneer, to strengthen the SAF value chain. This partnership further reinforces the region’s long-term goals in sustainable biofuel solutions.
Rio Grande do Sul was chosen strategically due to its robust infrastructure, availability of crude glycerol, and strong track record in low-carbon public policies. The state's investment promotion agency, Invest RS, provides tailored services, including assistance in site selection, access to incentive programs, and coordination with public agencies.
Invest RS, in partnership with the State Department of Economic Development, aims to position Rio Grande do Sul as a competitive and strategic destination for new investments, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. The signing ceremony was attended by acting governor Gabriel Souza, Invest RS CEO Rafael Prikladnicki, Cemvita CEO Moji Karimi, and Cemvita’s Strategy & Business Development Director, Fernando Borba.
Cemvita partners with major global corporations to deliver cutting-edge technological solutions that address climate challenges and help build a more sustainable future. The company's plant, set to be the first in the world to operate at industrial scale using this bioconversion technology, will undoubtedly contribute to these efforts.
