2026 Geely EX5: Enhanced Electric Crossover Offers Longer Range and Premium Features

The 2026 model year of the Geely EX5, initially named Galaxy E5, is set to hit the market with significant updates, aiming to provide a more efficient and luxurious driving experience.

The new EX5 boasts a 160 kW (215 hp) front-mounted electric motor that delivers 320 Nm torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in approximately 6.9 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h. The vehicle is powered by a 60.2 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP range of approximately 410-430 km depending on the variant. Charging capabilities include 100 kW DC fast charging (30%-80% in about 20-28 minutes) and up to 11 kW AC charging. Additionally, the EX5 supports bidirectional charging (V2L and vehicle-to-vehicle) for powering external devices or other EVs.

Key specifications of the 2026 EX5 include dimensions of 4,615 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,670 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The ground clearance varies between 148 mm (Complete model) and 168 mm (Inspire model). The interior features a large 15.4-inch infotainment screen with Flyme Auto OS, premium features such as heated, ventilated, and massaged front seats, head-up display, a 16-speaker Flyme Sound audio system, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Pricing for the 2026 EX5 starts from around $40,990 to $44,990 (plus on-road costs) in markets such as Australia. In China, the EX5 costs between 109,800 and 145,800 yuan. The top-trim level, previously priced at 179,800 yuan, has been removed from the 2026 model year. The EX5 now offers two LFP battery variants: a 60.2 kWh for 530 km and a 68.4 kWh for 610 km.

The 2026 model year EX5 retains the same body size and styling with incremental improvements in technology and interior features. It offers a longer range than the previous model, and while the electric motor power and torque remain largely the same, the new version expands premium features, driver aids, and charging flexibility.

In comparison to competitors in its class (compact electric SUVs), the EX5 offers competitive range (~410-430 km WLTP) and acceleration (0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds), which is strong for an affordable compact electric SUV. Its charging speed (100 kW DC) is solid but not class-leading; some rivals may offer faster charging. Interior luxury features and technology, such as massaged seats, HUD, and 16-speaker audio, provide a level of refinement often found in higher-tier models. Pricing around $41,000–$45,000 positions the EX5 as good value for money against similar EV crossovers with fewer premium features. The availability of bidirectional charging (vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle) is a notable advantage for versatility.

The Geely EX5 has been a success for Geely International, with sales of 150,000 units worldwide as of July 4, 2025. The EX5 has become the brand's international sales driver, launched in 35 countries. In China, the EX5 is the most exported BEV A-class crossover, and its domestic cumulative sales reached 130,715 units, according to China EV DataTracker.

The 2026 model year EX5 comes in two new exterior colours: Dawn Blue and Evening Forest Green. Sales of Geely NEVs in July rebounded after a June decline, led by Galaxy sub-brand sales. The EX5's battery could be charged from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes at DC chargers.

The 2026 Geely EX5's advancements extend to various sectors, incorporating technology and finance as it offers a longer range and lower prices compared to its previous model, positioning it as a competitive and affordable choice in the automotive industry. Additionally, the EX5's innovative features, such as bidirectional charging, set it apart in the transportation sector, showcasing the company's commitment to incorporating cutting-edge solutions in their vehicles.
