Insurance company distribution of $19 million to American citizens in resolution of accusations involving persistent text message annoyance
News Article: QuoteWizard to Settle $19 Million Class Action Lawsuit
QuoteWizard, a well-known auto insurance comparison platform, has announced that it will settle a class action lawsuit for $19 million due to violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The lawsuit was filed for sending unsolicited telemarketing text messages to phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry.
The settlement, which does not require QuoteWizard to admit guilt, will see eligible class members who received multiple texts automatically receive payments. The deadline for class members to exclude themselves from the settlement was August 5, 2022.
The payout distribution is as follows: Individuals who received at least two texts will receive a minimum of $76. For each additional text beyond the first two, an additional $38 will be added per text.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for September 29, 2022. A dedicated website and toll-free number will be launched with additional details.
Affected Americans should expect automatic payments from the $19 million settlement as long as they remain part of the class. The minimum amount for each person is around $76, depending on the number of texts received.
This settlement marks another instance of a tech company being held accountable for TCPA violations. In recent years, similar lawsuits have been filed against companies like Dish Network and Caesar's Entertainment.
