The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Nio, has unveiled its latest creation, the ET9, a luxury electric sedan that promises to redefine the high-end EV market. Scheduled for delivery in Q1 2025, the ET9 is the first vehicle to adopt Nio's groundbreaking 900V Thunder EDS (Electric Drive System).

Measuring 5324/2016/1620 mm with a wheelbase of 3250 mm, the ET9 is a large, luxurious electric sedan or SUV, depending on the body style. Powered by a 120-kWh battery and a 900V Thunder EDS, the ET9 boasts a combined peak power output of 520 kW or 697 hp, enabling strong acceleration and performance.

The 900V Thunder EDS is a testament to Nio's commitment to advanced electric powertrain technology. It utilizes a 1200V silicon carbide power module with a power density of 1315 kW/L, capable of handling over 300,000 power cycles. The longitudinal size of the electric motors in the 900V Thunder EDS has been reduced by 280 mm, contributing to a smaller size and improved living space in the cabin.

The 900V Thunder EDS also features continuous wave winding technology that offers 86% of the motor's power. The front axle asynchronous induction motor has a peak power of 180 kW, making it the highest power density among asynchronous electric motors. The revised liquid-cooling system in the 900V Thunder EDS increases the motor's peak continuous power by 30%.

The ET9's interior is designed for premium comfort, featuring Alcantara seats, an acoustic hood for noise reduction, and a high-end infotainment system. Safety is prioritized with multiple driver assistance features and a 360-degree camera system. The ET9's design is modern and premium, incorporating state-of-the-art technology seen in Nio's flagship luxury EV lineup.

One of the standout features of the ET9 is its active suspension system, which allows it to shake and dance. The ET9 is also equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, providing high-level driver assistance and semi-autonomous operation, enhancing safety and convenience.

The Nio ET9, the brand's flagship fastback, was unveiled on Nio Day 2023 and is currently available for preorder with a price of 800,000 yuan (~110,000 USD). The ET9 has already been seen in China during road tests and is set to enter the Chinese market in 2025, making it the first vehicle to adopt the mass-produced 900V Thunder EDS.

In summary, the Nio ET9 is a technologically advanced luxury electric sedan with strong performance, long range, Level 4 autonomy, premium comfort, and is the first vehicle equipped with the Nio 900V Thunder EDS electric drive system.
