In the dynamic world of finance, Bitcoin continues to gain traction among corporations and institutions, with the number of public companies holding the cryptocurrency expected to increase by 25% by the end of 2025.

One such company is Thumzup Media, a media firm based in an unspecified location, which recently purchased approximately 9.8 BTC for around $1 million. This move marks Thumzup Media's commitment to holding a significant portion of its reserves in Bitcoin, with plans to allow freelancers to receive payment in the cryptocurrency as well.

This trend towards Bitcoin adoption is not limited to Thumzup Media alone. In Europe, regulatory clarity under frameworks like MiCA and advancements in stablecoin infrastructure, real-world asset tokenization, and decentralized finance (DeFi) have made Bitcoin an attractive strategic reserve asset.

The second quarter of 2025 saw a surge in institutional adoption, with public companies increasing their Bitcoin holdings by over 23% quarter-over-quarter. Forty-six new companies entered the market during this time, reflecting a broader shift in corporate treasury strategies to include digital assets as inflation hedges and portfolio diversifiers.

In the U.S., while cryptocurrency adoption faces some CFO caution due to volatility concerns, government actions such as President Trump's executive order establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve and recent stablecoin legislation indicate growing institutional and governmental acceptance. This support is instrumental in fostering corporate adoption.

On the country level, there are "sovereign Bitcoin experiments" occurring in nations like Germany and the Netherlands, where Bitcoin is being explored as a reserve asset for strategic and cross-border settlement advantages. This further confirms Bitcoin's increasing legitimacy in the global financial ecosystem.

Ming Shing, a Hong Kong-based construction firm, purchased 500 BTC for around $47 million, while Semler Scientific, a medtech firm, acquired 237 BTC valued at $23.3 million. These investments were driven by the belief that these cryptocurrency holdings would drive growth and provide value to shareholders.

Italian banking institution Intesa Sanpaolo also joined the fray, purchasing 11 BTC for approximately €1 million, marking the first direct cryptocurrency transaction by an Italian banking institution.

Genius Group boosted its crypto reserves to 319.4 BTC, investing roughly $30 million over a six-week period in Q4 2024. MicroStrategy maintains a substantial lead among corporations with 450,000 BTC (~$43.4 billion).

The Russian State Duma and the European Parliament have voiced support for building Bitcoin reserves, further indicating the growing acceptance of Bitcoin in the global financial landscape.

Only El Salvador and Bhutan have official Bitcoin policies at the national level, but it seems that 2025 is shaping up to be a year of increased Bitcoin adoption, not just by corporations, but also by governments and financial institutions worldwide.

Heritage Distilling announced a Bitcoin standard, allowing online purchases in Bitcoin and acquiring the crypto as a strategic reserve, adding to the growing list of companies embracing Bitcoin.

As we move forward, experts anticipate an expansion of national and corporate adoption of Bitcoin in 2025, making Bitcoin a significant player in the global financial market.
