Jan Wachtel Named New CEO of Burda Media
Jan Wachtel, a seasoned media executive, has been appointed as the new CEO of Burda Media. He will succeed Philipp Welte, who will transition to the supervisory board in 2026. Wachtel's appointment takes effect from 1 January.
Wachtel brings a strong track record from leading various media houses. He will oversee around 5,500 employees across 16 countries, generating approximately €1.37 billion in sales. Burda Media's diverse portfolio includes Burda Verlag, Burda Forward, Burda Druck, Burda Broadcast, and international subsidiaries.
Hubert Burda praised Welte's successful expansion of the publishing business and commitment to entrepreneurially funded journalism. Wachtel's appointment was supported by Elisabeth Burda Furtwängler, a shareholder and supervisory board member, who believes he is the ideal candidate to lead Burda Media's future development.
