Japan's First Large-Scale Energy Storage Systems Launch in Kyushu and Hokkaido
Pacifico Energy, Japan's leading renewable energy developer, has launched the country's first large-scale grid-connected Energy Storage Systems (ESS) in Kyushu and Hokkaido. The facilities began operating in June 2023, marking a significant step towards accelerating renewable energy adoption.
The ESS facilities, which provide ancillary services, capacity services, and energy arbitrage, are expected to enhance power grid stability. Kyushu Electric Power Company was the organization that commenced their commercial operation.
Pacifico Energy established a battery storage business department in 2021 and achieved this milestone within two years. The company's rapid progress is a testament to its commitment to renewable energy. With a cumulative total of 1,172 MW (DC basis) of completed solar power plants, Pacifico Energy is the largest renewable energy developer in Japan.
The successful launch of Japan's first large-scale ESS facilities is a significant step towards integrating renewable energy into the country's power system. These facilities will help mitigate weather-related fluctuations and grid bottlenecks, paving the way for renewable energy to become the primary power source.
