Kaarster's flower district takes center stage in energy restoration initiatives - Kaarst aggressively moves forward to enhance its energy efficiency
The city of Kaarst, located in Germany, is taking a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on building renovation as part of its Integrated Energy Quarter (IEQ) concept. The IEQ concept is a neighbourhood-level approach to energy management that combines energy-efficient building renovations, renewable energy generation, smart grids, and sustainable mobility to create low-carbon urban environments.
In line with this initiative, the city's renovation office offers consultations to property owners regarding energy-efficient renovations. Carsten Tum, managing director of Innovation City Management GmbH (ICM), emphasized the importance of cooperation and involvement of the people for the success of the energy transition.
The city is hosting an event series titled "Energy saving offensive" to provide diverse information about the project and funding opportunities. The first event in this series, themed "Energetically renovate - from the basement to the roof", will be presented by the concept and renovation management team on February 7, at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the multifunctional room of the Albert Einstein Forum, Am Schulzentrum 16.
Participants of the online survey conducted by ICM stand a chance to win one of ten culture and DIY store vouchers worth up to 100 euros. The survey aims to gather information about the needs and renovation plans of the owners in the project area, with the results to be included in the concept development for the integrated energy quarter.
The renovation office is open to property owners every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registrations for the event can be made online at www.kaarst.de/blumenviertel or by phone at 0800 / 4 62 36 00. Appointments with the renovation office can be made in the same way.
Mayor Ursula Baum of Kaarst stated that the city takes climate protection seriously and that each modernized building improves the climate balance and local quality of life. The energy savings from the renovation projects will be reflected in the participants' own wallets.
