Kaufland's City Center Revitalization Project Delayed to 2026
Kaufland's expansion project in the city center has faced delays. Originally planned to start in 2023, demolition and construction will now commence in 2026. The project aims to revitalize the shopping news hub and is a joint effort between Kaufland and the city administration.
The project's timeline has shifted due to various factors. Initially, demolition was set for 2023, with construction starting in 2024. However, in autumn 2024, Kaufland notified the city of a delay to 2025. Recently, in April 2025, it was announced that construction cannot begin until 2026.
Kaufland submitted a revised planning upgrade in October 2022, which was approved in December 2022. This revision improved plans for the new building's facade, entrances, and bicycle parking spaces. The approved plan includes a new 3,530 square meter consumer market with 218 parking spaces. An application for an extension of the building permit is currently under review.
Despite the delays, the project to strengthen the city center as a shopping and supply news hub continues. Kaufland and the city administration are collaborating to ensure the successful revitalization of the shopping location on 'Unter den Hecken' street. The new building is expected to bring improved facilities and increased parking spaces to the area.
