Kazakhstan Boosts Oil Exports to Germany by 38% in First Seven Months of 2025
Kazakhstan has significantly boosted its oil exports to Germany in the first seven months of 2025, with notable increases through both the 'Friendship' pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline (BTC).
In the first five months of 2025, Kazakhstan delivered 767,000 tons of oil to Germany via the 'Friendship' pipeline, marking a 48% increase from the same period in 2024. This trend continued, with July 2025 seeing an 11,000-ton increase to 160,000 tons compared to July 2024. Since 2023, Kazakhstan has been regularly using this pipeline after Germany ended its imports from Russia.
Through the BTC pipeline, Kazakhstan transported 923,000 tons of oil to Germany in the first seven months of 2025, a 10% increase from the previous year. This route is part of the southern transport corridor, diversifying Kazakhstan's oil export routes via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
The 'Friendship' pipeline's capacity allows for up to 2.5 million tons per year, with an agreement needed with Russia for its passage through their territory. Kazakhstan's energy ministry initially planned to deliver 1.2 million tons via this pipeline in 2025 but has since targeted up to two million tons.
By July 2025, Kazakhstan had increased its oil deliveries to Germany via the 'Friendship' pipeline by 38% to around 1.086 million tons. Despite no official announcement of a specific target for 2025, the ministry's increased target suggests a commitment to further boosting exports through this route.
