Kharif Cotton Season 2025-26 Begins: India Boosts Procurement Systems
The Kharif Cotton Seasons 2025-26 commence on October 1, with procurement operations scheduled across different zones in India. Meanwhile, the Union Textiles Ministry has taken steps to bolster cotton procurement systems.
The season's start coincides with the beginning of procurement operations in the Northern Zone on October 1, followed by the Central Zone on October 15, and the Southern Zone on October 21. In other news, the Union Textiles Ministry has urged all cotton-growing states to adhere strictly to the minimum support price (MSP) operational norms. To facilitate this, a record 550 cotton procurement centers have been set up across the 11 cotton-growing regions.
A recent review meeting, chaired by Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, discussed measures to fortify the cotton procurement systems. The ministry's efforts aim to ensure fair prices for farmers and a smooth procurement process.
