Kuwait initiates yearly power plant maintenance to cater to summer energy requirements

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is set to launch its annual maintenance program next week. This program aims to ensure a reliable electricity supply for the summer season, with a focus on avoiding recurring shutdowns and maintaining sufficient capacity to meet the country's electricity needs.

Thorough maintenance is particularly targeted at aging units slated for decommissioning, with the goal of preventing recurring shutdowns. The Ministry is working diligently to complete the maximum possible number of maintenance before next April.

In addition to the power generation units, the maintenance program also includes water plants. Measures adopted this summer have already eased shortages, and the Ministry is relying on the readiness of production units to meet the challenges of next summer.

The Ministry has also made an agreement with the Gulf Interconnection Network to purchase 900 megawatts during the maintenance period, allowing for more units to undergo both radical and preventive maintenance as planned.

The new residential cities of Nawaf Al-Ahmad, Al-Sabriya, and Al-Khairan are also being addressed in this maintenance program. The Housing Care Foundation, which is involved in addressing the electricity requirements of new residential cities, plans to fulfill the electricity and water supply requirements for these cities by the end of 2025.

The Ministry is coordinating with the Housing Care Foundation to ensure these cities' needs are met, as discussions are focused on the timetable for meeting the electricity and water needs of these planned cities. The Ministry is aiming to meet the electricity and water needs of these new residential cities as part of its commitment to providing adequate resources for the country's growth.

These measures are part of a larger plan to secure adequate electricity supply for the summer season, and they will support further solutions underway. The Ministry is confident that these steps will help avoid recurring shutdowns and ensure a stable electricity supply for the country's residents.
