New Police Building Coming to Friedland: A Sustainable Investment in City's Security
The city of Friedland is set to receive a new police building, as part of the state program "Seven in One Go". This modern, sustainable construction project is expected to cost around 11 million euros, with funds coming from the federal infrastructure special assets.
The three-story structure, modelled after the sustainable model of Heringsdorf, is set to enhance the city's attractiveness and improve the daily work of police officers. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026, with discussions with the city ongoing to find a suitable location.
The new police building in Friedland is one of seven new buildings set to be constructed throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with cities such as Gadebusch, Ueckermünde, Bad Doberan, Sassnitz, Waren, and Güstrow also set to benefit from this investment.
The investment in these new police buildings is considered an investment in the security of each city and its surrounding area. However, not everyone is in agreement. The opposition in the Schwerin state parliament has criticised the project, with René Domke, spokesperson for the FDP group in the Schwerin castle, labelling it as not an "investment offensive, but a shifting of responsibilities."
Nikolaus Kramer, the parliamentary group leader of the AfD, has also voiced criticism, stating that the state government has "misjudged priorities and missed important infrastructure projects for years."
Despite the criticism, the new police building in Friedland is being hailed as a "paradigm for modern, sustainable construction in the state service." The sustainable model features technology such as a photovoltaic system and an air heat pump, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
The new police building is intended to provide a safe and efficient working environment for the police force, with the aim of improving the overall security of the city and its surrounding area.
