Layoff of certain workers at Liebherr.
Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH, a company renowned for developing and manufacturing integrated systems for the aviation industry, has initiated an internal investigation following the suspension of one of its employees. The employee in question is alleged to have had contacts with Russia-related circles and involvement in the Reich citizen scene, a far-right movement in Germany.
The employee, who joined the company as a strategic buyer in 2011 and transitioned to cost analysis in 2021, had no access to strategic or security-relevant data in these roles. According to the company, all employees undergo training on handling confidential data, and all employment contracts contain a confidentiality obligation.
The allegations against the employee arose from media reports suggesting ties to Russian institutions and far-right activists. The Reich Citizens movement, to which the employee is believed to have links, is known for rejecting the legitimacy of the modern German federal state and its laws, believing the German Empire or Reich should still be in place.
Liebherr-Aerospace has emphasised that no confidential projects are being worked on, and thus no official security clearances were involved. The company has initiated an internal investigation and is taking the necessary steps to address the situation. However, no further specific findings have been disclosed publicly regarding the conclusions of the investigation.
Both the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Russian Embassy in Berlin have declined to comment on the matter, citing the employee's right to privacy and the lack of involvement in any projects subject to secrecy. The Russian embassy in Berlin also stated that it does not collect personal data from visitors of its public events.
It is important to note that Liebherr-Aerospace's landing gear systems, flight control, and actuation systems are used in aircraft and helicopters of all major manufacturers. The company's products play a crucial role in the aviation industry, and this investigation has not affected its operations.
The Stuttgarter Zeitung/Stuttgarter Nachrichten first reported on this matter, bringing the issue to public attention. The company has not planned any security checks of its employees, suggesting that this investigation is focused on the specific employee in question.
As the investigation continues, the public will await further updates regarding the employee's involvement with the alleged far-right activities and ties to Russian institutions. Liebherr-Aerospace has assured that it is taking the situation seriously and is committed to maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of its operations.
