Lobbyist for the IHK (Industry and Commerce Association) faces criticism for urging companies to seek political aid too hastily.

Susanne Herre, the CEO of the Industry and Commerce Chamber (IHK) Region Stuttgart, has expressed her concerns about a prevalent attitude among businesses during economic crises. In a web video podcast called "Zur Sache! intensiv," she criticized what she referred to as the "full coverage mentality."

Herre believes that this attitude, which encourages businesses to seek extensive subsidies and aid programs, has become more prominent since the Corona crisis. She argues that this mindset is not beneficial and calls for a more pragmatic and balanced approach to business risk during challenging times.

In a positive light, Herre welcomed the German federal government's 50 billion euro package as an important aid measure. However, she criticized the limited reduction in electricity tax, which only applies to manufacturing and agriculture sectors.

Herre's comments were in response to a question about the "full coverage mentality." She emphasized that entrepreneurs should primarily take matters into their own hands during such times. She continued to advocate for businesses to take more responsibility and move away from this mentality.

The IHK Region Stuttgart represents approximately 175,000 member companies, and Herre's stance aligns with her broader efforts to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and promote flexibility. For instance, she has advocated for easier employment access for trainees from third countries, indicating her support for practical solutions over overly cautious or risk-averse strategies.

In terms of the growth boost, Herre supports the government's measure that encourages investments by allowing companies to write off new acquisitions more quickly. However, she also emphasized that more growth leads to stronger tax revenues, which can further aid the economy.

Despite the criticisms, Herre's overall message is one of resilience and self-reliance. She encourages businesses to adopt more agile and opportunity-focused strategies, moving beyond excessive risk aversion to navigate economic crises more effectively.
