Local syndicate accused for contaminated milk incident in Pabna, as alleged by PRAN Dairy

In a recent development, PRAN Dairy, a prominent dairy company in Bangladesh, has found itself embroiled in an adulterated milk scandal at one of their rural collection centres in Chatmohar upazila, Pabna. However, PRAN Dairy authorities have vehemently denied any direct involvement and have instead pointed the finger at a local syndicate[1].

The authorities claimed that this was a planned conspiracy by the syndicate, aiming to tarnish PRAN's reputation[2]. The syndicate, which consisted of some local milk suppliers and a few collection center employees, allegedly intimidated PRAN's staff and even physically assaulted a PRAN official on 7 March, resulting in a police case[3].

PRAN Dairy's Managing Director, Eleash Mridha, expressed deep shock over the adulteration and immediately shut down the collection centre and launched an investigation[4]. He also addressed misinformation on social media, stating that unrelated videos showing soda, oil, and detergent were falsely linked to PRAN's collection centre and were edited and misrepresented[5].

The syndicate, in conjunction with three suspended employees, is suspected to have attempted to introduce detergent-mixed milk into the collection centre[6]. In response, PRAN Dairy is strengthening its processes with awareness campaigns, improved testing, better monitoring, and CCTV installation at collection points[7].

Suppliers from Chhaikola union with repeated quality problems had their supply codes cancelled[8]. PRAN Dairy's Chief Operating Officer, Maksudur Rahman, detailed ongoing quality control efforts[9]. It is believed that these local milk suppliers, frustrated by their failure to supply substandard milk to PRAN, joined forces with the collection center employees to introduce adulterated milk[10].

Early findings from the investigation show that the local syndicate conspired to carry out the act[11]. Legal action is currently underway against the identified parties[12]. It is important to note that PRAN milk is completely safe and hygienic[13].

PRAN Dairy held a press conference on August 10, 2022, at their head office in Badda, Dhaka, to address the detection of adulterated milk at the rural collection centre[14]. The company is working tirelessly to ensure the integrity of their products and maintain the trust of their customers.

The authorities asserted that the local syndicate, involved in the business domain of milk supply, planned a conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of PRAN Dairy, a prominent figure in the finance sector of Bangladesh's dairy industry. Consequent to this alleged incident, PRAN Dairy is enhancing its financial commitments towards awareness campaigns, improved testing, better monitoring, CCTV installation, and quality control efforts.
