Long-time P&G employee and IIM Lucknow alumnus, Shailesh Jejurikar, ascends to the position of CEO.
In a significant move, The Procter & Gamble Company has announced that Shailesh Jejurikar will become its CEO effective January 1, 2026. Jejurikar, currently the Chief Operating Officer, will be the first Indian-born CEO in P&G's 187-year history.
Jon R. Moeller, who has been CEO since 2021, will assume the role of Executive Chairman on the same date. Moeller will remain closely involved with the company as Executive Chairman, advising the leadership team and chairing the board.
Jejurikar has held a succession of senior roles across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America in Procter & Gamble. He joined the company in 1989 as an assistant brand manager for Personal Health Care in India. Over the years, he has helped lead global operations in supply chain, IT, and business services. In his current role as COO, Jejurikar has overseen the company's largest regions and categories.
The announcement comes amid a wave of Indian executives taking top roles in global corporations, particularly in technology and consumer sectors. Shailesh Jejurikar's elevation to CEO is a testament to his leadership and business acumen, as well as the growing significance of India in P&G's talent and market strategy.
P&G's board has nominated Jejurikar for election as a director at its annual shareholder meeting in October. Joe Jimenez, lead independent director of the P&G board, praised Jon R. Moeller's leadership for his role in a significant transformation in the Company's history.
The transformation included portfolio streamlining, productivity improvement, and a renewed strategic focus on superiority across brands and categories. However, the company trimmed its annual core earnings outlook earlier this year due to uncertain consumer sentiment and potential trade-related impacts, particularly in the American market. P&G is one of the top ten markets globally for the company, and Jejurikar has stated that India's demographic and economic momentum will only increase its strategic value.
More than 350 Indian expats are in global roles across P&G, highlighting the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Indian leaders regarded as predecessors to Jejurikar's career at Procter & Gamble include Ajay Banga, former CEO of Mastercard and current President of the World Bank, known for his global leadership and business achievements, and CK Prahalad, a visionary business thinker and management guru influential in innovation and strategy.
As Jejurikar takes on the role of CEO, he will navigate a volatile consumer environment and continue the transformation started by Moeller. With his extensive experience and deep understanding of the company, Jejurikar is well-positioned to lead P&G into the future.
