Luxury sports car, LaFerrari, original model to be sold at auction for a whopping $1.2 million.
In the world of high-performance vehicles, the Ferrari F150 Muleto M4 prototype has made a significant mark. This unique piece of automotive history was recently auctioned at RM Sotheby's Monterey Car Week, with an estimated value ranging from $900,000 to $1.2 million USD.
The Development of the F150 Muleto M4
During its development, the F150 Muleto M4, internally nicknamed "F150" and known as the “F150 Muletto M4” during development, represented the first phase of real-world testing for the LaFerrari, Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar. The car was built around a heavily modified Ferrari 458 Italia chassis to accommodate a hybrid V-12 powertrain producing a combined output of about 949 horsepower.
The F150 Muleto M4 was developed covertly in 2010 before the LaFerrari’s production reveal. After development, Ferrari sold the prototype to loyal clients, though it was not road legal.
Specifications of the F150 Muleto M4
The F150 Muleto M4 features a matte black finish, exposed rivets, large front air intake, high-rise side air intakes, and patchwork prototype styling. The interior is mostly 458 Italia with leather seats, a traditional tachometer (9000 rpm redline), and added high-voltage switch and warning labels indicating hybrid technology.
The Value of the F150 Muleto M4
The F150 Muleto M4 is considered a highly collectible Ferrari development artifact, representing a key technological shift towards hybrid hypercars. The prototype's historical value is reflected in its auction price, which reached between $900,000 and $1.2 million USD at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week in 2025.
It's important to note that the LaFerrari, a different model, is part of the "Holy Trinity" of hypercars, along with the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. However, the LaFerrari is not the same as the F150 Muleto M4 prototype or the 458 Italia, despite the prototype being based on the latter.
The LaFerrari, a high-performance vehicle with exceptional speed and power, cannot be used on public roads without modifications. Some LaFerrari models have been sold for over $4 million.
