Manufacturing operation launched by Louis Vuitton in Girona, Spain (now the company's fourth factory)
Louis Vuitton Expands Presence in Spain with New Leather Goods Factory
In a move to bolster its production capabilities, luxury fashion giant Louis Vuitton has opened a news-making factory in Girona, Spain. This is the fourth plant the company has established in Catalonia, a region known for its rich craftsmanship and design heritage.
The factory, located in the heart of Girona, spans over 3,000 square meters and currently employs 70 people. However, the company aims to significantly increase its workforce, with plans to grow by 30% each year. This ambitious expansion could see the factory's workforce reach between 500 and 600 employees in seven to eight years.
The new factory is dedicated to the manufacturing of Louis Vuitton's renowned leather goods, further cementing the brand's commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The factory's capacity exceeds 500 workers, suggesting that it is well-equipped to meet the growing demand for Louis Vuitton's products.
It's worth noting that the land for the factory is leased, not owned by LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton. This follows the same model used for the other three factories LVMH operates in Barberà del Vallès, Barcelona.
The investment in the new factory amounts to around €10 million, excluding the cost of the land. This expansion is part of LVMH's broader production structure in Spain, which is entirely concentrated in Catalonia.
This latest move is part of a broader growth strategy for Louis Vuitton. The company closed the first nine months of the fiscal year with a 15% growth compared to the same period in 2010, reaching €16.3 billion. With a workforce in Catalonia exceeding 1,000 people, Louis Vuitton continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
The first two Louis Vuitton factories in Catalonia, dedicated to small leather goods, were inaugurated in 1990 and 2002, respectively. The third factory, which produces belts, was opened in 2006. The latest addition to this lineage, the factory in Girona, was established by Louis Vuitton itself.
This expansion underscores Louis Vuitton's commitment to Spain and its rich tradition of craftsmanship. As the brand continues to grow, it remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship that its customers have come to expect.
