A45 Rinsdorf Viaduct: Groundbreaking Bridge Relocation Hits Major Milestone
Massive Operation Underway to Transport A45 Bridge: Extraordinary Project Begins - Massive A45 bridge relocation initiates - Xtra-large undertaking commences
Get ready to witness the extraordinary! A colossal bridge section, weighing an impressive 40,000 tons, is making its slow yet steady way across the A45 highway in Rinsdorf, Siegerland, accompanied by its towering pillars. This innovative and colossal operation is set to conclude on Wednesday when it reaches the second bridge section.
The Sauerland line's valley bridge behemoth, encompassing its substructure and mammoth, 70-meter-high pillars, has been slowly but surely inching its way centimeter by centimeter since the early hours. Once docked to the second, already completed and operational section, the total distance, a precise 20 meters and 59 centimeters, will be bridged. Traffic continues to flow smoothly over the second section, despite the intricate movement of this almost 500-meter-long structure, which is expected to take up to 30 hours in total.
As the drama unfolds, extensive prep work was done beforehand: the six bridge pillars were raised by two centimeters, and Teflon plates were inserted as slippery runways. This engineering marvel now moves smoothly on rails.
The old Rinsdorf bridge, a relic from the 1960s, met its demise around three years ago. A new bridge was first built beside it, and the completed steel and concrete bridge section, boasting formidable concrete pillars, is now being carefully moved as close as possible to this new bridge.
For maximum safety, an extensive suite of measures was implemented to systematically address and eliminate all potential hazards. Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek, Director of the Westfalen branch, emphasized the extensive collaboration of numerous acknowledged experts in civil engineering at the project's inception.
Stay tuned for updates on Wednesday afternoon as the Autobahn GmbH provides an on-site briefing on the project's progress.
