Metallium Secures US E-waste Supply, Partners with Glencore for 75% Metal Offtake
Metallium Limited, an Australian company, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Glencore, a global mining company, for electronic scrap supply and metal offtake in the United States. The partnership, set to last until the end of 2025, involves Glencore supplying feedstock for Metallium's first commercial facility in Texas and purchasing up to 75% of its recycled metals production.
The MOU, a binding contract between Metallium and Aurubis from Germany, secures raw materials for an e-waste processing plant in the USA. Glencore will provide technical assistance, including assaying of incoming materials, to enhance quality control and processing efficiency. This collaboration follows a site visit by senior Glencore technical representatives to Metallium's Houston-area facility.
The partnership validates Metallium's technology and business model, securing supply chain inputs and enhancing revenue visibility. It supports Metallium's strategic U.S. expansion plan, aiming to develop a national network of e-waste processing facilities near major e-waste collection centres, data centre clusters, and industrial corridors with strong logistics infrastructure. The partnership targets 8,000 tonnes per year of inbound printed circuit board (PCB) processing in Stage 1, with potential for expansion in future growth stages.
Metallium's proprietary Flash Joule Heating technology enables the extraction of critical and precious metals from e-waste, including gallium, germanium, antimony, rare earth elements, and precious metals. The MOU establishes an exclusivity period until December 31, 2025, unless extended or replaced by definitive agreements. This partnership marks a significant step in Metallium's global expansion plans, securing a reliable supply of e-waste and a pathway for increased metal production and sales.
