A revealing analysis by ADAC suggests that daytime fuel prices are substantially higher compared to nighttime prices, with this disparity nearly doubling over the past year. The gap between the highest and lowest daily average prices for Super E10 and diesel was 12.5 cents and 13.3 cents respectively, as reported by ADAC on Tuesday. In comparison, the difference for gasoline and diesel in the preceding year was 6.4 cents and 7.3 cents respectively.

ADAC's latest findings show a staggering increase in this price difference for gasoline, setting a new record. The highest daily difference experienced by the club in 2020 was 11 cents, while a record diesel price difference of 16 cents was observed by ADAC in 2022, correlated with the surge in fuel prices brought about by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

To gather their data, ADAC examined prices from over 14,000 gas stations across Germany in May. The periods that offer the most favorable rates to fill up are between 19:00 and 20:00, as well as between 17:00 and 18:00 and between 21:00 and 22:00.

Conversely, the priciest time to refuel is shortly after 7:00 AM for about an hour. Following this peak, prices gradually decrease in seven waves. From around 23:00, prices experience a slight increase and remain consistently above the daily average throughout the night. Prices then rise sharply around 7:00 AM.

By capitalizing on these price fluctuations shrewdly, drivers can save an average of over six euros on a 50-liter tank fill-up, as per ADAC's findings. This advice applies to the vast majority of Germany's over 14,000 gas stations.

In addition to timing, drivers can also save by selecting a relatively cheaper gas station.
