Nationwide Construction Industry Inspection Uncovers 27 Cases of Suspected Illegal Work
On June 16, 2025, a nationwide inspection in the construction industry took place. The Main Customs Office Regensburg joined with 72 forces, while 2,800 customs officers inspected sites across the country. The action aimed to combat illegal work and employment, with a focus on protecting workers and securing state revenues.
The inspection uncovered 25 administrative offense proceedings and one criminal proceeding. Two cases involved illegal employment of foreign workers, with four cases referred to foreign authorities. Around 126 people were questioned, and 27 cases require further examination. Many cases suspect non-payment of social security contributions.
In Bavaria, joint controls by construction and building regulatory authorities resulted in 33 new proceedings, the highest since 2006. Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil stressed the importance of intensifying efforts against illegal work to prevent exploitation and safeguard state revenues.
The nationwide inspection in the construction industry revealed numerous cases of suspected illegal work and employment. Authorities are continuing to investigate 27 cases. The high number of proceedings in Bavaria highlights the need for ongoing vigilance and cooperation among authorities to protect workers and ensure fair competition.
