Nationwide Inspection Nets Over 700 Cases of Undeclared Work in Construction

On June 16, 2025, a nationwide inspection led by customs targeted undeclared work and illegal employment in the construction industry. The operation, involving multiple authorities, resulted in over 700 proceedings and uncovered numerous offenses, including withheld social security payments and minimum wage violations.

The Coordinated Controls, which included customs, labor inspectors, social security agencies, and sometimes police, interviewed over 8,000 employees and checked around 280 businesses. Initial indications of offenses were found in over 1,800 cases, with around 560 involving withheld social security payments and over 260 related to minimum wage compliance.

Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil praised the customs officers' efforts and reiterated the government's commitment to tightening regulations against undeclared work and illegal employment. The FKS, which regularly conducts such inspections, will continue to investigate the findings and strengthen its financial control measures.

The nationwide inspection highlighted the prevalence of undeclared work and illegal employment in the construction industry, with over 700 cases initiated. The government plans to improve the legal framework and bolster customs' control to combat these issues effectively.
