Nel's Third Order: 2.5 MW Electrolyzer to Decarbonize Swiss Garbage Trucks
Nel ASA, a Norwegian company specializing in hydrogen production, has received its third order from Swiss firm H2 Energy. The order, for a 2.5 MW containerized PEM electrolyzer system, marks a significant step in municipal decarbonization efforts. The system will be installed at the Association for Waste Disposal (VfA) in Buchs, Switzerland, using locally generated power for energy production.
H2 Energy, the customer, has a proven track record with Nel's systems. Their existing Nel systems have clocked over 42,000 operating hours and have supplied 18 hydrogen refueling stations. This has resulted in a total of 14 million kilometers driven by their fleet, demonstrating the reliability and efficiency of Nel's technology.
The new 2.5 MW electrolyzer system, of the MC500 type, will power the fleet of garbage trucks operated by the VfA. This will not only support the decarbonization of municipal vehicles but also contribute to broader energy distribution in Switzerland. This is a concrete step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for the country's waste management sector.
Nel ASA's third order from H2 Energy underscores the growing demand for hydrogen production solutions in the Swiss market. The installation of the 2.5 MW electrolyzer system at the VfA in Buchs is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from municipal vehicles and support the expansion of energy infrastructure in Switzerland.
