Liberty Specialty Markets Bolsters Energy Division with Strategic Hires
Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), a part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has made strategic hires in their energy division, aiming to strengthen its global presence in the power and renewables sector. Alex Nelson, Andrea Ciraci, and Oliver Prout have joined LSM as underwriting manager and senior underwriters respectively.
Alex Nelson, with over a decade of experience, has taken up the position of underwriting manager for power and renewables. He previously led Chaucer Group’s onshore energy portfolio and has worked at Zurich. Andrea Ciraci, with nine years of experience underwriting power, renewables, downstream, and overseeing the UK nuclear portfolio, has joined as a senior underwriter. Oliver Prout, also a senior underwriter, has seven years of London market experience focusing on renewable energy contracts, most recently at Chaucer.
These strategic hires bring more than 30 years of focused underwriting lead business expertise in energy, particularly power and renewables, to LSM’s team. James Boyle, head of energy at LSM, will oversee the new appointments. Boyle stated that the new hires bring strong sector expertise that will be key to further growing LSM’s power and renewables offering.
In addition to these hires, LSM has announced the launch of a new Lloyd's facility, the Liberty Project Cargo Consortium (LPCC). The LPCC offers capacity to underwrite risks up to an undisclosed amount, designed to underwrite global project-related cargo risks.
Paul Sankey, currently the head of the Energy & Construction teams in London, has been promoted to the role of Global Head of Oil & Gas at LSM. He takes up his expanded role with immediate effect, and will be overseen by Mike Gosselin, Head of Global Risk Solutions.
Furthermore, LSM has entered into a renewal rights agreement with Ironshore Europe to take on its European non-M&A business and staff. This deal aims to build upon existing relationships and expand LSM’s presence in the European market.
LSM takes a long-term view of risk, allowing them to sustainably partner with clients through various market cycles. With these strategic hires and new facilities, LSM is positioning itself to lead the way in the energy sector, responding to rising demand in the power and renewables sector.
