Nissan Sets Plans for Employee Reduction at European Operations Center

Nissan Announces Job Cuts at European Headquarters as Part of Global Restructuring Plan

Nissan is planning to cut jobs at its European regional headquarters in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. The company is currently in talks with employees and union representatives about voluntary redundancies, before any forced layoffs.

This restructuring is part of a broader global strategy announced by Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa in April 2025. The strategy involves cutting about 15% of Nissan’s global workforce, reducing vehicle production capacity by nearly 30%, and closing several manufacturing plants worldwide.

The exact number of job cuts at the Montigny-le-Bretonneux office has not been specified yet. Currently, about 560 employees are on staff at the office. The consultation process with staff representatives at Nissan Automotive Europe is still ongoing, and is expected to conclude in October 2025. Final decisions and details will be communicated to staff in November 2025.

The changes will affect the office's work with organizations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Oceania. The office in Montigny-le-Bretonneux is expected to undergo major changes, reflecting the global restructuring plan.

It's important to note that no job cuts at Nissan’s European production plant in Sunderland, UK, have been reported so far. The consultation process is taking place at Nissan's regional office in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France.

Nissan is also planning to shut down seven Japanese manufacturing plants and one in Mexico as part of the restructuring plan. The company has not shared further information about the consultation process at this time.
