Norwegian & Widerøe Defy Drone Disruptions, Report September Passenger Growth

Norwegian and Widerøe, two major airlines, have released their September passenger and operational statistics. Despite temporary airspace closures due to suspected drone activity, they transported a combined total of 2,698,173 passengers.

Norwegian, the larger of the two, transported 2,302,536 passengers. This figure represents a 2% increase in capacity, with 3,603 million available seat kilometres (ASK) offered, and a 3% rise in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), reaching 3,118 million. The airline's load factor improved by 1.4 percentage points year-on-year to 86.6%.

Widerøe carried 395,637 passengers in September, with a 11% rise in capacity to 202 million available seat kilometres (ASK). The airline's load factor stood at 73.4%, almost unchanged from last year. Despite the disruptions, Widerøe maintained high punctuality at 94.0%, compared to Norwegian's 78.9%.

In September, Norwegian and Widerøe demonstrated growth in passenger numbers and capacity, with Norwegian's load factor reaching its highest level since 2019. Despite temporary airspace closures, both airlines maintained strong punctuality, highlighting their resilience and efficient operations.
