NPP Slams Government's 'Paltry' Cocoa Price Increase, Calls for GH¢7,000.00

The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Akan Constituency Communications Officer, Frank Adjei-Worlanyo, has criticized the government's recent cocoa producer price increase, describing it as 'paltry' and a departure from the party's promises during its opposition period. The current Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, had previously pledged to raise the price to at least GH¢6,500.00 or GH¢7,000.00 per 64kg sack.

Adjei-Worlanyo recalled the government's criticism of past price hikes and its promises to significantly raise the producer price to GH¢7,000.00 per 64kg bag. However, the recent increase saw the price rise from GH¢3,228 to GH¢3,625 for the 2025/2026 crop season, a move Adjei-Worlanyo deemed inadequate.

He accused the government of breaking its promises to cocoa farmers and applying double standards. Adjei-Worlanyo called on the government to revisit its commitments and implement policies that truly value the cocoa industry. He warned that unfulfilled campaign promises could erode trust between citizens and the government.

The government's recent cocoa producer price increase has drawn criticism from its own party. Adjei-Worlanyo's remarks highlight the gap between the government's past promises and its recent actions. The government must address these concerns to maintain trust and support from the cocoa farming community.
