Octagon Credit expands private credit sector with two new hires
Octagon Credit Investors Strengthens Private Credit Business with Senior Hires
Octagon Credit Investors, a leading $33bn asset manager specialising in broadly syndicated loan, structured credit, multi-asset credit, and direct lending strategies, has made two significant appointments to bolster its private credit business.
Sean Sullivan, who most recently served as the head of direct lending origination at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, has joined Octagon as Managing Director and Head of Private Credit. Michael Ahrens, previously Senior Vice President at Antares Capital, has been appointed as Principal at Octagon Credit Investors, effective from 22 September.
Sullivan's extensive experience in direct lending, which he honed at Antares Capital, Solar Capital, and GE Capital, will be instrumental in the growth of Octagon's private credit business. He will serve on the firm's private credit investment committee and its executive committee, bringing his expertise to bear on key decisions.
Ahrens, with his background at Antares Capital, will also contribute significantly to the development of Octagon's private credit business. His appointment underscores the firm's commitment to building a dedicated team for this strategic initiative.
Gretchen Lam, chief executive of Octagon, commented on the evolution and convergence of the broadly syndicated loan and private credit markets. She emphasised that the appointments of Sullivan and Ahrens, with their wealth of underwriting experience and sponsor relationships, complement Octagon's deep credit expertise, providing a solid foundation for the creation of a best-in-class private credit platform.
Direct lending is identified as a natural extension of Octagon's capabilities and existing platform. The private credit business at Octagon Credit Investors focuses on senior secured loans to upper middle-market corporate borrowers.
Octagon's longstanding market presence and exceptional track record are seen as an outstanding foundation for this venture. The firm's private credit business aims to leverage its broad syndicated loan expertise to provide flexible, customised financing solutions to meet the evolving needs of its clients.
Sullivan, prior to joining Octagon, worked as a Principal at the firm starting from 22 September. His recent career details before joining Octagon have not been publicly disclosed.
The appointments of Sullivan and Ahrens are part of Octagon Credit Investors' larger strategy to form a dedicated team to build out its private credit business, positioning the firm for continued success in the evolving credit markets.
