The highly anticipated return of the Northlander passenger rail service is set to reconnect communities and improve access to essential services across northern Ontario. The service, planned to be operational in December 2025, marks a significant step forward in the region's transportation infrastructure.

A crucial component of the new Northlander service is the North Bay Rail Bypass. This bypass, set to be completed soon, will enhance safety, improve passenger comfort, and reduce travel time for the Northlander. Ontario Northland CEO, Chad Evans, emphasised these benefits, stating that the new section of track will indeed make a positive impact.

The North Bay Rail Bypass is not just about improved travel times and safety. It is also expected to strengthen the local economy by supporting tourism, job creation, and northern industries. North Bay Mayor, Peter Chirico, expressed his gratitude towards the Ontario government for their continued commitment to northern growth and for making this project a reality for the north.

Mayor Chirico also declared the completion of the North Bay Rail Bypass a transformative moment for the city and the region. This sentiment is shared by many, as the bypass will reconnect communities and expand access to essential services across northern Ontario.

The Northlander will have a total of 16 stops along its route, connecting Toronto to Timmins, Ontario, and including Cochrane. With the North Bay Rail Bypass now underway, the countdown to the Northlander's return has truly begun.

The completion of the North Bay Rail Bypass is an important milestone in the progress of the Northlander program. As we move closer to the service's return, the promise of improved connectivity, enhanced safety, and economic growth for northern Ontario becomes increasingly tangible.
